How the order is decided
Every property faces the same five questions, and the answers are written out as prose.
Starting point: the night itself
The whole judgement rests on what happens between handing over your passport at reception and dropping the key card at departure. Where the hotel stands, how the building feels, how well you sleep and what waits outside the front door all count. The casino is filed alongside the laundry service and the valet ramp: present, recorded, irrelevant to the order.
No arithmetic involved
You will not find points, stars or blended guest scores on Nightkey. A hotel's position is an editor's call, and the review explains that call in plain sentences.
Positions are not merchandise
A resort cannot buy its way onto the list, nor up it. Outbound links are bare addresses with no affiliate tag, commission deal or reservation engine behind them.
The five questions
| Question | What earns credit |
|---|---|
| Setting | A destination you would happily visit without the resort, ideally explorable by walking, tram, bus or boat. |
| Building | Architecture, history or a striking position that lingers in the memory after checkout. |
| Rooms | Floor space, daylight, what the window frames, and how evenly standards hold across towers and wings. |
| Around the room | Pools, spas, kitchens, gardens, stages and day trips that would fill a stay with the gaming floor closed. |
| Best match | The traveller most likely to leave pleased, named in each "Best for" sentence. |
Fresh eyes on a timetable
Every entry gets a scheduled second look, and an unscheduled one whenever a hotel rebrands, starts building work or shuts its doors. Beside the ranking heading, a month stamp records the latest fact check.
