A hotel guide that ignores the jackpot

Where Nightkey came from, which reader it pictures, and the few lines it refuses to cross.

The itch that started it

Read a typical piece about a casino resort and you learn the size of its slot hall long before you learn whether the pillows are any good. That always struck us as backwards. Nightkey looks at ten of these resorts the way a picky overnight guest would: the street outside, the shape of the building, the bedroom, the breakfast, the trip you can take tomorrow. The gaming hall gets a passing mention and no vote.

Three refusals

  • Nothing to play. You will not meet a wager, a spinning reel, a free demo or a raffle anywhere in these pages.
  • Nothing to book. Rooms are not sold here, and a reservation made after reading us pays us precisely zero.
  • Nobody to thank. No resort, chain or owner on the list has a contract, a sponsorship or any commercial handshake with us.

How a write-up comes together

The raw material is whatever the hotels publish about themselves, reporting on their architecture and districts, and plenty of time spent studying each destination on a map. Entries are short by choice and end with a single sentence naming the guest who will be happiest there. Our ranking method spells out the logic.

Caught us out?

Hotels quietly swap restaurant names, mothball a tower or move to a different brand. When an entry here has drifted from reality, tell us through the contact page. We hold your note up against the property's own published information and rewrite the passage once the two agree.
