Top 10 Casino Hotels

All ten of these resorts hide a casino behind one set of doors or another, yet not one place in the order was won or lost there. What settled it was the stuff you actually remember from a night away: the view on waking, the hush of the corridor, the walk you take after breakfast. Tap a row and its review unfolds.

Staying at Encore Las Vegas

Encore rises beside Wynn Las Vegas as a curved tower of bronze glass, and the pair share a single indoor street of boutiques, gardens and restaurants. Its rooms are all arranged as suites, with a sitting area set apart from the bed and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame either the desert mountains to the west or the Strip glowing to the south. Interiors lean on warm reds, butterfly motifs and soft lamplight, and the corridors feel noticeably hushed.

Daytime revolves around Encore Beach Club, a terraced pool space with cabanas that turns into a party on summer weekends, so anyone wanting silence can retreat to the quieter resort pools. The spa is among the more serene on the boulevard, and restaurants across the shared complex run from grilled steak to refined Cantonese cooking. The convention centre is a short ride east. A casino shares the main floor, yet nothing in this verdict leaned on it.

Best forTravellers who want Strip convenience but also a proper suite to retreat into.

Staying at Grand Walkerhill Seoul

Grand Walkerhill occupies a wooded rise on the eastern edge of Seoul, where the lower slopes of Mount Acha drop toward a broad bend of the Han River. That setting makes it feel more like a country estate than a downtown tower, with lawns, footpaths and trees between the buildings. Rooms are calm and contemporary, and those on the river side open onto long views of bridges, water and the city stretching west, a scene that turns golden at dusk.

The grounds are shared with Vista Walkerhill, a sister hotel, so guests can choose between two moods without changing address. In spring the road climbing the hill is lined with cherry blossom, and trails lead up Achasan to old fortress remains and lookout points. Subway stations at Gwangnaru and Gangbyeon are a short shuttle or taxi ride away, linking to the palaces of central Seoul. The casino, run by a separate company, admits foreign passport holders only.

Best forA Seoul stay that mixes river views and forest paths with easy trips into the centre.
03Mediterranean point

The Westin Dragonara Resort

A headland resort surrounded by the Mediterranean on three sides

St Julian's, Malta

  • Pool
  • Views
  • Beach
  • Spa
  • Sits on its own rocky point in St Julian's
  • Casino kept in a nineteenth-century palace
  • Rock lidos with ladders into the sea
On the pointA palace beside the waves
Official site ↗

Staying at The Westin Dragonara Resort

The Westin Dragonara fills a narrow headland at the edge of St Julian's, so most rooms face open sea rather than streets. Balconies catch the Mediterranean breeze and the lights of the bays on either side, while the low buildings step down toward lidos cut into the rock, where ladders lead straight into clear water. Interiors are bright and uncomplicated, designed for long days outdoors rather than lingering indoors, and the sound of waves drifts through the gardens.

At the tip of the point stands the Dragonara Palace, a classical-fronted nineteenth-century villa that now houses the casino, keeping it well apart from the hotel wings. Spinola Bay, with painted fishing boats and waterfront restaurants, is a short stroll away, and the busier lanes of Paceville lie just behind. Buses follow the coast to Sliema, where ferries cross the harbour to Valletta, and day trips reach the walled city of Mdina or the neighbouring island of Gozo.

Best forSun-and-sea breaks in Malta with swimming straight off the rocks.
04Riverside capital

NagaWorld

Two linked towers on the Phnom Penh riverfront, close to the Royal Palace

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Dining
  • Shopping
  • Rooms split between the Naga1 and Naga2 towers
  • Towers joined by the NagaCity Walk arcade
  • Riverside promenade leads to the palace quarter
Within reachThe Royal Palace quarter
Official site ↗

Staying at NagaWorld

NagaWorld stands on the riverfront of Phnom Penh, not far from where the Tonle Sap meets the Mekong, and it is one of the best-known addresses in the Cambodian capital. Accommodation is divided between two towers, Naga1 and Naga2, connected beneath the road by an air-conditioned shopping and dining arcade called NagaCity Walk. Rooms tend to be spacious, and the higher floors look out over the rivers and a low skyline that glows orange as the sun goes down.

Pools and a spa offer relief from the tropical heat, and the restaurants span Khmer, Chinese and international cooking. Outside, the riverside promenade leads north toward the Royal Palace and its Silver Pagoda, and the Independence Monument rises a few blocks inland. Tuk-tuks wait at the entrance for rides to the Central Market or the sobering Tuol Sleng museum. The gaming halls take up a large share of the complex, so ask for a room away from the busiest entrances.

Best forA first visit to Phnom Penh with the palace and the riverfront close at hand.
05Mountain foothills

Yaamava' Resort & Casino

A tribal resort tower set against the San Bernardino Mountains

Highland, California

  • Pool
  • Spa
  • Shows
  • Views
  • Owned by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians
  • Hotel tower faces chaparral-covered foothills
  • Yaamava' Theater books touring headliners
Scenic driveRim of the World Highway
Official site ↗

Staying at Yaamava' Resort & Casino

Yaamava' belongs to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, whose reservation lies at the foot of the San Bernardino Mountains, and the name comes from the Serrano word for spring. The resort grew out of what was once called San Manuel Casino, and its hotel tower now rises against steep chaparral slopes. Rooms are polished and modern, with large windows framing either the mountains or the Inland Empire spreading toward a hazy horizon.

A pool deck with cabanas and a full-service spa fill the daytime, and the Yaamava' Theater brings major touring artists and comedians to a purpose-built hall. Beyond the property, the Rim of the World Highway climbs toward Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, where pine forest and cooler air replace the valley heat within about an hour. Palm Springs and the Los Angeles basin are both reachable by car. Most gaming happens on floors that guests can easily skirt.

Best forSouthern California trips that pair a big-name concert with a mountain drive.

Adelaide, South Australia

Official site ↗

Staying at Eos by SkyCity

Eos is the boutique hotel tower added to the SkyCity complex in central Adelaide, where the casino occupies the grand sandstone building of the city's former railway station. The hotel feels intimate rather than sprawling, with a modest number of rooms finished in soft tones, fine fabrics and generous bathrooms. Upper floors look out over the River Torrens and its parklands, toward the green belt of reserves that encircles the city centre on every side.

Its address on North Terrace puts several of Adelaide's major cultural institutions within a few minutes' walk, including the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum and the State Library. The Festival Centre lies just across the plaza, and the Botanic Garden waits at the eastern end of the terrace. A footbridge crosses the river toward North Adelaide's cafés, and the wine regions of the Adelaide Hills and the Barossa Valley make easy day trips.

Best forCulture-led Adelaide weekends with galleries, gardens and the river all on foot.

Fairmont El San Juan Hotel

A storied beach hotel known for its carved-wood lobby and giant chandelier

San Juan, Puerto Rico

  • Nightlife
  • Directly on the sand at Isla Verde
  • Lobby panelled in dark carved wood
  • Main airport only a short drive away
Lobby landmarkA vast crystal chandelier
Official site ↗

Staying at Fairmont El San Juan Hotel

Fairmont El San Juan sits right on the sand of Isla Verde, the long curve of beach east of Old San Juan, and it has been a fixture of the island's social life for decades. The lobby is its signature: dark carved wood lines the walls, and an enormous chandelier hangs above a lounge where live music often plays at night. Rooms have been refreshed in light coastal colours, and many face the Atlantic or the palm-shaded pools.

Days here drift between the beach, the pool terraces and the restaurants, with cocktails taking over once the heat eases. Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is close enough that arriving guests can be in the water soon after landing. Old San Juan, with its pastel streets and the fortress of El Morro, is a short drive west, and El Yunque rainforest makes a full-day outing. The compact casino sits off the lobby and is simple to leave out of the trip.

Best forA beach-first Puerto Rico holiday with almost no airport transfer.
08Algoa Bay shore

The Boardwalk Hotel

A Sun International hotel across the road from the Algoa Bay beaches

Gqeberha, South Africa

  • Operated by Sun International
  • Lakeside complex of restaurants and shops
  • Summerstrand beaches across the road
Day tripAddo Elephant National Park
Official site ↗

Staying at The Boardwalk Hotel

The Boardwalk Hotel anchors a leisure complex in Summerstrand, the seaside suburb of Gqeberha, the Eastern Cape city formerly called Port Elizabeth. Across the road lie the beaches of Algoa Bay, where a promenade runs past swimming spots and rock pools. The hotel is the most polished part of the complex, with a calm lobby, spa treatments and rooms dressed in pale, airy tones, several of them overlooking gardens and water features rather than parking areas.

Beyond the hotel doors, a boardwalk of restaurants and shops loops around an ornamental lake, making evenings easy without a car. Mornings suit a stroll along the beachfront toward Hobie Beach and its pier, or a boat trip to look for dolphins and whales in the bay. Addo Elephant National Park lies roughly an hour's drive north and is the classic excursion from the city. The casino belongs to the wider complex, and hotel guests can bypass it with ease.

Best forEastern Cape coastal breaks combined with a safari day at Addo.
09Border town

Perla Resort

A four-star resort in the Slovenian town that faces Gorizia across the border

Nova Gorica, Slovenia

  • Spa
  • Dining
  • Shows
  • Wine
  • Run by the Slovenian company HIT
  • Short walk from the border with Gorizia, Italy
  • Soča Valley and Brda vineyards nearby
Shared squareTwo countries, one piazza
Official site ↗

Staying at Perla Resort

Perla stands in Nova Gorica, a town laid out after the Second World War on the Slovenian side of a new frontier, facing the older Italian town of Gorizia. Run by the Slovenian company HIT, it is a four-star resort with a wellness area, several restaurants and an entertainment programme gathered around its gaming floor. Rooms are tidy and comfortable rather than lavish, which suits a base for exploring the green valleys and wine hills that surround the town.

In 2025 the two towns shared the title of European Capital of Culture, a nod to how the border has softened. At the square beside the railway station, a line set into the paving marks the frontier, and visitors happily stand with a foot in each country. The emerald Soča River flows just outside town, the hilltop vineyards of Goriška Brda produce celebrated white wines, and the Vipava Valley adds more cellars. Ljubljana and Trieste both make comfortable day trips.

Best forCross-border wanderers chasing wine country and two cultures within one walk.
10Steel-town arts

Wind Creek Bethlehem

A hotel tower on the old Bethlehem Steel grounds, beside towering blast furnaces

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

  • Shopping
  • Shows
  • Dining
  • Arts
  • Built on the former Bethlehem Steel plant
  • SteelStacks arts campus right next door
  • Owned by Wind Creek Hospitality since 2019
Next doorBlast furnaces lit up at night
Official site ↗

Staying at Wind Creek Bethlehem

Wind Creek Bethlehem occupies part of the former Bethlehem Steel works, the plant that once supplied steel for bridges and skyscrapers across the United States. Opened as Sands Bethlehem and bought in 2019 by Wind Creek Hospitality, which belongs to the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, the resort keeps an industrial edge, with brick, iron and exposed beams echoing its surroundings. Hotel rooms are modern and comfortable, and some look straight at the rusting furnaces that still tower over the site.

Those furnaces form the backdrop to SteelStacks, an arts and music campus where outdoor concerts, a film centre and the August Musikfest bring the old plant back to life. After dark, coloured lighting turns the stacks into a memorable spectacle. The resort adds an outlet shopping centre and an event centre of its own. Across the Lehigh River, historic Bethlehem preserves Moravian stone buildings from its eighteenth-century founding, and a Christmas market fills the town in winter.

Best forArts lovers curious about industrial heritage and a busy festival calendar.
Ground rules

Four things worth knowing first

Rooms come first

We file the gaming hall next to the laundry chute and the loading dock: part of the building, none of the score. The scribbles that matter describe the check-in queue, the mattress, what fills the window, the coffee and how far your feet can carry you.

Each write-up signs off with a "Best for" sentence, a quick test of whether the hotel matches the trip you have in mind.

Unbought, unbribed

No resort, investor, tourist board or PR firm has a way to purchase a place here, a nudge upward or a gentler adjective. The links out are bare addresses of official hotel sites, stripped of referral tags, reservation widgets and trackers.

Answering to nobody frees us to grumble as well, about marathon corridors, sun loungers claimed by nine, and the like.

Check before you commit

Room categories get new names, whole towers vanish behind scaffolding and surprise fees pop up at checkout. Use Nightkey to shrink the shortlist, then phone or email the property: which tower is my room in, is anything being rebuilt that week, what happens to my deposit if plans change?

Festival weekends book out months ahead; shifting a trip by even two nights often unlocks a noticeably nicer room.

Gaming, kept in its place

Only adults may enter a gaming floor, and the qualifying age shifts from one country to the next. Anyone who wants a flutter should price it like a theatre ticket, decided before the night begins, with bank cards left upstairs and a firm exit once the ticket is used up. Each of the ten earns its keep with the chips left untouched.

Should the gaming start to feel like a burden, free and private help is out there; the Responsible Gaming page lists it.
